About Us
The Educator Preparation Program (EPP) is a resource available to the McKay School of Education and Arts and Sciences colleges that host educator preparation programs. Its primary function is to advise and support academic units on matters concerning the accreditation and state licensure of education programs on campus. The EPP provides trainings and maintains resources to assist faculty and school-based partners in preparing BYU students for licensure. The office provides support in compiling and submitting key reports to federal and state agencies.

Dr. Brent W. Chowen
Dr. Brent W. Chowen is currently the interim Director of the Brigham Young University Education Preparation Program Accreditation Office (EPPAO). Brent comes from the McKay School of Education, where he served for 3 years as an Associate Professor in Teacher Education. Prior to arriving at BYU, he worked in the School of Education at Brigham Young University—Hawaii. In his role at BYUH, he served as a classroom professor, a clinical field supervisor, department chair, and accreditation lead for BYUH’s TEAC accreditation.

Terri Summers
Terri Summers comes to BYU after 25 successful years as an educator. She has been a classroom teacher, principal, and district administrator. Terri has a bachelor degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, earned an English as a Second Language endorsement as well as advanced degrees in Teaching and Learning, School Leadership, and National Board Certification as a Middle Childhood Generalist.

Janet Olsen
Janet Olsen was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. She owns a successful music studio in South Utah County and sits on the state board of the Utah Music Teachers Association. Janet is a best selling author and international speaker, presenting on music theory and teaching students with autism and learning disabilities.

Rachel is from Cedar Hills Utah. She is a History Teaching Major with an Art minor and wants to go and teach US and World History and Art to high school students. She served her mission in Independence, Missouri.

Claire is from Nashville, TN. She just switched her major to Genetics and is hoping to be a genetic counselor one day. She loves to bake bread, salsa dance, and do yoga. She served her mission in Brazil João Pessoa and Georgia Atlanta North.

Olivia Shepherd
Olivia Shepherd is from Kaysville, Utah. She enjoys playing the piano, pickleball, and eating ice cream. She served her mission in Dallas, Texas and is studying Communication Disorders at BYU.

Emma was born and raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She is currently a junior at BYU studying family life with an emphasis in family studies, along with a minor in music and French. Emma enjoys spending time with her family, especially when surrounded by nature. She enjoys traveling to new places and trying different kinds of food, as well as hiking, reading, and warm beaches!
