Teresa Leavitt

Associate Director

Dr. Teresa Leavitt serves as the Associate Director of the Educator Preparation Program Office and is also a Teaching Professor in the McKay School of Education. Prior to this position, she worked for 17 years at BYU as the liaison between the Elementary Education Program and the Alpine School District. In this capacity, she worked with students on campus teaching various courses including Intro to Education, Classroom Management, Planning, and Practicum Seminars. Additionally, she worked with students in clinical placements as they completed practicum, student teaching, and internships. She currently teaches the BYU University 101 course.

Teresa graduated from BYU with a degree in secondary social studies education. She continued her higher education with an MA in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Phoenix and a PhD in Teacher Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her experience in K-12 schools includes teaching middle school in Clark County, Nevada. She regularly presents at professional conferences, including at the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) and the National Association of School-University Partnerships (NASUP). She received a BYU Experiential & Inspiring Teaching Award in 2022.

Outside of work, Teresa loves spending time with her family, attending sporting events, baking, being outdoors, and reading.
