Elementary Education - BS

This major is designed to prepare students to teach grades K-6 in public schools. In order to graduate with this major, students are required to complete Utah State Board of Education licensing requirements.

The program in elementary education prepares teachers, who, having gained their own liberal education, help elementary grade children learn by improving the teaching they receive, not only in schools, but in homes, churches, and communities. Elementary Education emphasizes ways to help elementary students enhance their thinking abilities, build their confidence in exploring new ideas, and become self-motivated independent learners.

In these programs prospective teachers learn about the cultures of children, develop a solid foundation in basic principles of teaching and learning that originate in developmental theory and research, and become proficient in appropriately implementing those basic principles in practical settings.
