CAEP Requirements

BYU is a current member of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). All undergraduate teaching majors comprise the Initial Programs and the School Psychology and School Leadership programs comprise the Advanced Programs. These programs together make up the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) at BYU.

CAEP has standards that guide the accreditation process. These standards provide a framework for education programs in the preparation candidates. Certain CAEP criteria impact BYU teacher education requirements, all of which support licensure recommendation to the Utah State Board of Education.

Please see the Admissions and Retention Requirements for accepted Basic Skills tests and score levels. Candidates without an acceptable writing score must register for the Praxis Core Writing test. BYU has provided a certain number of available vouchers for the Praxis Core Writing. Please contact the Education Advisement Center (EAC) in the McKay School of Education for further information.
