BYU EPP Teaching Internships Policy

BYU EPP Teaching Internships Policy

At BYU, the teaching internship is a capstone experience that places full-time BYU students as full-time contracted teachers in classrooms and requires the same commitment and accountability to K-12 learners as fully-employed teachers. Interns assume the role of the classroom teacher of record and are expected to complete all the duties, requirements, and responsibilities outlined in the employment contract. Coaching and support is provided by the school via an experienced mentor. The teaching internship at BYU is a commitment for the entire academic year as defined by the host school. As such, internships may not end mid-year nor begin mid-year. Students working as interns must complete the entire school year assignment, fulfill the requirements of the employment contract, and complete all EPP assessments in order to complete the course and receive recommendation for licensure in the state of Utah. If the intern does not complete the full year internship and fill the terms of their contract, the intern will receive a failing grade on their transcript for their capstone experience. Similarly, completing one semester of an internship will not be counted as equivalent to a semester-long student teaching experience. Intern candidates must have the Utah Associate License prior to interning which includes passing the appropriate Praxis Content Knowledge test.
